Hello. I recently figured out I’m a cartoonist. Having always vaguely been a cartoonist in a very secret and embarrassed sort of way, I decided to do a course in it through the Cartoon Institute and now I’ve got a certificate and everything. Though I’ve just discovered that the course I did no longer exists. Which is a bit Narnian.
I do cartoons about theatre and acting because I’m also a vaguely embarrassed actress. Examples of my theatre cartoons are displayed in ‘Exhibition Work’ from my debut show at the Orange Tree Theatre in Richmond. I will be exhibiting this collection again at the Corke Art Gallery in Liverpool in April 2012; and at the end of the year at Oriel Gallery, Theatr Clwyd in North Wales for which I will be creating about fifteen brand new pieces.
If there is something you particularly like though, nothing to do with theatre or acting, I happily and boundlessly cartoon in other genres. Private commissioned work to date has included wedding invitations, baby announcement cards, special birthday pieces, Sherlock Holmes-themed cartoons, personalised greetings cards and illustration.
My thanks to Nick Tucker Photography for this rather glamourous photo of me; to lovely Ilan for helping me to create this site and not least to you for taking time to look at my drawings today – I hope they make you smile. Emily x
